My dear Margaret,

I was so delighted to receive your nice letter. The photograph of our great-grandmother and the crests. Also the letter of great Uncle Henry concerning my grandfather. I began to write you at once but the letter grew longer and longer! After copying out various items which I thought would be of interest, I found it would be very heavy to send by air mail so it is going with the following photographs - by registered ordinary mail - with this letter tomorrow.

Photos are:

  • The miniature of our great-grandfather, Charles Russell C.
  • G.G.Grandfather Charles (copy of painting)
  • Small photo of self taken in 1936
  • Photo of Pearl Beach
  • Photos of old silhouettes of Louis (Linen) Crommelin and his wife, Anne C.
  • Photo of the Lawrence picture of Mrs. C. (?) (compare this with the Charles pictures)
  • Unidentified man taken from a Carrowdore family miniature)
  • Three newspaper articles about this station (two with awful photos which are really not like me at all!)
  • Some copies of a couple of addresses which may explain what I am trying to do here. I am afraid they are poor attempts.

If you think Evelyn would care to read them, you might let her see them. I am so sorry to be so long sending the photos but if you knew how busy I am, you would forgive me I am sure. Today more students arrived. It makes 120 since the last week in May. Sydney University has just been celebrating its centenary and I think and hope it means the beginning of greater interest and expansion in the things I am so very hopeful about here. Let us hope so, at any rate.

I do appreciate all you have done and I think you must be a real Crommelin(!) or you would not be so interested and so painstaking. Spring is coming to our garden and the native flowers are at their best. They are very lovely, especially the rock lilies (orchids) which are fine this year - cream and pale yellow - dozens of blooms over long drooping stems.

This has spread to Sept. 3rd and I have been quite knocked down with so much to do. There is now a record number of 128 for the dates given. My love to you, Margaret, and I hope to hear from you soon. Your affectionate cousin, Minard
