The Biter Bitten
Appearances can be deceiving.
All that glitters is not gold.Those who catch, are often caught
As by this Emblem, we are taught...A hungry Seagull seeking food, her appetite to stay,
Unexpectedly spied along the beach
An oyster grand that wide open on the sand did lay;
She picked at its dainty meat, thinking to eat her fill,
But the Oyster quickly shut her shell,
And caught the gull fast by the bill.Let this now a warning be to those
With lustful thoughts upon their mind -
Those accustomed to picking and prying
When suddenly something wide open they do find;
For many an inviting girl perchance, lies gaping for a prey,
Who lustfully lurks, to catch, a hunter in the hay.If it looks too good to be true,
It usually is.
