The Biter Bitten

Appearances can be deceiving.
All that glitters is not gold.

Those who catch, are often caught
As by this Emblem, we are taught...

A hungry Seagull seeking food, her appetite to stay,
Unexpectedly spied along the beach
An oyster grand that wide open on the sand did lay;
She picked at its dainty meat, thinking to eat her fill,
But the Oyster quickly shut her shell,
And caught the gull fast by the bill.

Let this now a warning be to those
With lustful thoughts upon their mind -
Those accustomed to picking and prying
When suddenly something wide open they do find;
For many an inviting girl perchance, lies gaping for a prey,
Who lustfully lurks, to catch, a hunter in the hay.

If it looks too good to be true,
It usually is.
