The Bonds of a Fool

If any wit had he,
From such feeble bonds,
he'd soon be free.

At a heartsick lover, three scruffy urchins do mock and point and shout,
"But I can't draw my mind away from that girl,"
Said the object of their taunt,
"For I perceived in her a spirit rare - one that's so noble, rich, and pure,
That to my love I'll always shackled be by these chains of Iron sure."

They replied, "Why doting fool, we never heard of one,
That by a single straw is bound,
So what's preventing you from cutting loose
And quickly moving on?"

The fool replied, "Someday you too will find
That the cords of the heart are such
That like links of steel they'll always bind
The one who loveth a little bit too much!"

Heartaches are such sweet misery.
