The Fishmongers

It's nasty for those who mishandle it;
It's great for those who do it right.

The quaviver is a dainty fish,
For those who know its tricks;
And know how to grip it right
To avoid its dangerous pricks.

This fish you prudently must grip,
Beware of handling it wrong;
For by wrong handling of the same
Some curse it loud and strong.

Therefore some folks this fish do praise
And much they desire the same,
While others do the same detest,
And loathe its very name.

So for one and the selfsame thing,
Some laugh, and others cry;
Yes, love is like this quaviver,
In the handling of it all doth lie.

In the handling hereof lies the skill
To the wise, 'tis good, to the foolish, ill.
