The Tortoise's Burden
No matter where you run, your burden is sure to follow. Does one seek liberty from life's entangling bands?
Well, leave them all behind by travelling to faraway lands!'
This sage advice a wise man once with me did share;
But now I know that his fair words were nothing but hot air.I've sailed away and journeyed far, sometimes in company,
But see here, the same old burden I started out with
Still now clings to me.
I've carried it up the mountains, and found it in deepest vale
Alas, the burden of one's heart is a load that follows,
No matter where'er you try to sail.Travelling to other lands
makes one appreciate one's own home more.
