Edward Lord Cornbury His Majesty's Capt. General and Governour in Chief of the Province of New-York, and Territories depending thereon in America, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c.

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS the Supream Court of this Her Majesties Province of New-York, ought by the Constitution thereof, to be kept, and begin to be hold at the City {Omitted text, 1w} the City of New-York, within the same province, on the first Tuesday in the Month of October next enlu?ng, which is now at hand, but by Occasion of the great Sickness and Mortality in the said City daily increasing there, the Persons who have business {Omitted text, 1w} , and are obliged to attend the said Court, both Inhabitants and those of Remoter parts, may be unwilling to come to the same, for fear of the Sickness and Mortality aforesaid, and of spreading the same throughout the whole Province, so that the said Supream Court for this t?me is like to fail, and the benefit thereof be wholly lost, if no provision to the contrary thereof be made, whereby many of Her Majesties good Subjects here may be Damnified, and suffer much in their Persons, Estates and Priviledges, for want of timely and leasonable means to help and defend themselves, as their Cases may Require, and the Law allows in the due course thereof, could it freely and without danger be had and obtained. In order therefore that the Laws may be duly administred within this Province, at their proper times and seasons, though the usual place thereof, at this time, for the Reasons aforesaid, cannot well be held to and observed therein. And that there be no delay of justice to any. I have though sit by and with the Advice and Content {Omitted text, 1w} Majesties Council for the said Province, to Adjourn the said upream Court {Omitted text, 1w} Judicature, that should be held the said first Tuesday in October aforesaid, at the City-Hall of the City of New York aforesaid, and all Matters and Causes depending therein from the said City Hall of the said City, to the Court-{Omitted text, 1w} the Town of Jamaica in Queens-County, within the said Province. And the said Supream Court of Judicature which should be held to the Province of New-York aforesaid, at the City {Omitted text, 1w} of the said City of New-York, on the first Tuesday in the Moneth of October next ensuing, and all Matters and Causes depending therein is hereby, by and with the Advice and Consent of Her Majesties Council aforesaid, Adjourned to the Court-House of Jamaica aforesaid accordingly, there to be held and kept on the same Tuesday and Days following in such Ma?ner and Form as the same hath been {Omitted text, 1w} , and ought to be holden at the City-Hall of the City of New-York aforesaid; and all Persons concerned herein are to take Notice hereof accordingly.

Given at Kings-Bridge the 17th Day of September, in the First Year of the Reign of our Soveraign Lady ANNE, by the Grace of God of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, QUEEN, Defender of the {Omitted text, 1w} , &c. Anno Dom. 1702.
